When Babies Start Teething




Around two months of age babies start the teething stage. The first sign is when they start to drool, at this time you should put a bib on your baby to prevent any irritation that may happen because of the wetness.

When your baby is holding a rattle they would also be old enough to grip a teething ring. It is a good idea to have a few in the fridge for when your baby starts to fuss. Do not freeze the teething ring because it will cause the baby to frost bite their hands and gums.

The first teeth will appear around the age of six to nine months. But if you or any of the siblings of your baby has had teeth come out at an earlier age your baby may also. When your baby’s teeth erupt they need to be cleaned. It is easy to clean your baby’s teeth using a washcloth or a soft toothbrush.

It is time to start flossing your baby’s teeth when they have many teeth that have erupted out of the gum. When your child tries to floss it will teach them some fine motor skills. There have been studies done by the American Dental Association that have proven that brushing alone will not remove all the food stuck in teeth so flossing also needs to be done. When flossing is not done daily cavities will appear sooner.

A dentist needs to see your child twice per year. The very first time should be when they are able to sit for ten minutes. This needs to be done by the time your child turns three years old.
